Health Checks

A lot of Masters players will have concerns for their health. Most will be unable to afford private fees and as the National Health system is so poor compared to our neighbours, it is particularly galling to have the consultant you see on the NHS be prepared to operate on you ‘next week’ – ‘privately’ at £3000.

One senior member of the Committee has been quoted £9000 for a private operation but has to wait up to a year to have the operation done by the same surgeon on the NHS. Absolutely disgraceful.

Herewith a really good value do it yourself health check!

1)      Initially, if you want a Full Medical Check, see Jim McCollum. I have been going for years and Jim is nationally famous in medicine and squash (he lost a world Masters Final 2/1 up and 8/4 up and had 4 match balls, but that is another story). Herewith his details. Jim can arrange MRI/CT scans at vastly reduced prices.

Thank you for your kind offer to publicise the medicheck and life scan
medicals.  I can confirm that the fee for 'over 50' medicals is £290.00 and
'under 50' medicals is £250.00 and if booked in conjunction with a medicheck
the lifescan MRI whole body screen can be booked at a 30-50% discount.

The screening includes urine analysis, full bloods (including PSA and
CA125), lung function tests, percentage body fat and a post exercise ECG, as
well as the routine medical screening tests.

I hope this is helpful and can also do limited screening, for example just
in relation to physical fitness and so on, if people do not want to
undertake the full health screening.

Kind regards
Dr D H McCollum

2)      If you want an all over ‘Body Check’ go to www.lifescan.co.uk. It is brilliant. My wife and I went last year. It will give you peace of mind. However, if you go via Jim McCollum you will probably get a much bigger discount than if you go direct.

3)      IF you need surgery, why not consider going to South Africa for it. I have personally just taken advantage of it and I can assure you it is much cheaper and the surgeons in the private Hospitals are very efficient (mine was at Edinburgh). Trevor Davies at Sports International – 002721 975 2922 – will be your co-ordinator. He can do the entire package.
